Mickalene Thomas presents “Origin of the Universe” at the Brooklyn Museum

Laumont is proud to announce our participation in Mickalene Thomas’ premiere solo museum exhibition in New York. Origin of the Universe opens Friday September 28th at the Brooklyn Museum, in the Morris A. and Meyer Schapiro Wing on the 4th floor. Over the past year, the scanning, lightjet printing, mounting & framing departments at Laumont worked closely with the Brooklyn based multi-media artist to produce photographs for the exhibition.

Mickalene Thomas "Origin of the Universe" - Opening September 28, 2012 at the Brooklyn Museum

Origin of the Universe includes some of Thomas’ most notable decorative portrait paintings as well as a new body of work that explores landscapes and interiors. The exhibition also features a mural in the entranceway, a debut film about the artist’s mother, and an installation of interior settings that are furnished similarly to the scenes present in her paintings and photographs. Laumont printed, mounted, and framed all of the photographs in the exhibition, excluding the small reproductions that are displayed within the installation.

The Santa Monica Museum of Art in California recently displayed Origin of the Universe, however their exhibition consisted of fewer pieces than the amount that is announced for the Brooklyn Museum.

More information about the artist and the exhibition is available via the museum’s press release.  Here’s a sneak peek of the installation!
