Acclaimed artist, Columbia University alum, and Assistant Professor Adama Delphine Fawundu presents ‘We be the luminous blues…’, a collection of UV printed banners currently on display at Lenfest Center for the Arts, part of Columbia University School of Arts.

The project required the material to have some transparency and the ability to hang straight without the edges curling. Delphine and the imager collaboratively chose a commercial-like banner material that would meet the goals of the installation and produce a beautiful print.
Delphine’s banners celebrate ancestors and alumni of Columbia University who transformed the world in remarkable ways.
Fawundu’s stunning collages honor Ruth Benedict; Marie Maynard Daly; Annie Elizabeth “Bessie” Delany and her sister, Sarah Louise “Sadie” Delany; Ella Cara Deloria; Zora Neale Hurston; Mabel Ping-Hua Lee; Antonia Pantoja; Paul Robeson; Frederick Wells; and Jamaica, Cuffy, Prida, Caesar, Jenny, Betsy, Pompey, and Richard Jenkins—all of whom were enslaved by Samuel Bard and his family—as well as James, who escaped in 1776.
