Artist Liz Nielsen collaborated with our Mounting and Framing department to design custom wood frames for 20x chromogenic light paintings printed on Fujiflex by Neilsen on view at the Joseloff Gallery at Hartford Art School.

The solo show titled “Interdimensional Timelines” showcases Nielsen’s analog work which she refers to as “light paintings”. The images are created in a pitch-black space while exposing the light sensitive film to tiny amounts of light and processed through a traditional method of color chemistry.

The exhibition includes large and smaller prints back mounted to Dibond for rigidity and fit within satin white painted Maple wood frames. The frames were designed to present the mounted prints suspended slightly away from the back of the frame with 1 inch of space between the edges of the print and the frame giving the artwork room to breathe. This combination of mounting and framing is what we call an internal float. Nielsen’s framed prints are finished with Optium Acrylic glazing which protects the print from dust, debris, fingerprints, and other potential damage from the immediate environment. Optium Acrylic by Tru Vue, is anti-reflective, filters 93% of UV rays, and has a durable coating that protects against scratches.

“Solar Plexis Portal, 2024” pictured above, was printed and framed as a diptych, displayed hanging one on top of the other creating a visually stunning arch of color.
