Artist Milargros de la Torre reviews proofs at Laumont in preparation for “Second Skin”, the current exhibition on view at Southampton Arts Center through December 28th.
The project begins in our Scanning department where the negatives are scanned using our Drum scanner to capture all of the fine details for printing. A master printer applies color corrections during the proofing process. The proofs are reviewed to notate edits before final print on an archival cotton rag paper chosen by the artist. The final prints head down to our Framing department where they are fitted in custom white maple frames and packed for delivery to the gallery. At Laumont, we take pride in collaborating with artists from start to finish.
These 4 works are from Milagro’s series titled “Bulletproof, 2008”. Bulletproof, 2008 showcases seemingly everyday clothing with a hidden function – to protect the wearer from potential gun violence (as referenced by the series title).
The show, “Second Skin”, explores the intersection of art and fashion – where clothing becomes a powerful medium for identity, gender expression, cultural dialogue and political activism.
