What sets Laumont apart from other print and frame studios is the nose-to-tail service we offer. Laumont offers full exhibition services beginning with local pick up of original artwork, Fine Art scanning, digital Retouching, Fine Art Archival UV and Pigment printing, professional Mounting, custom Framing, crating, delivery and installation.
In Fall 2024, Laumont collaborated with photographer, Ming Smith, and The Columbus Museum of Art to present Ming Smith: Transcendence. This solo exhibition featured original painted photographs along with photographs never before printed.
Starting in our Scanning department, Ming Smith brought in original painted photographs along with 35mm negatives to have captured on both the Fine Art Cruse Scanner and PMT Drum Scanner.
Once the originals and negatives have been scanned, the files were then transferred to our Pigment printing department, where a member of our team of master printers worked collaboratively with Ming during the proofing process. Specific archival photographic papers were recommended by the master printer and chosen by Ming to compliment each body of work. Once the proofs of each image were approved by Ming, each final was printed on our suite of Epson inkjet printers and quality checked before Ming reviewed and signed each print.
The prints then head down to our Mounting and Framing department where each was expertly hinged to archival museum board, backed to acid-free foam core for rigidity, and matted leaving a thin white border all around each print displaying Ming’s signature.
Each mounted matted print was then fit into a custom Maple wood frame painted a satin white and protected using Optium Acrylic glazing. Optium Acrylic provides resistance to glare so the viewer can view the art work with little distraction from reflection.
All of the steps of production within Laumont’s many departments result in a professional museum quality print and frame ready for installation anywhere in the world!
A member of our Laumont staff happened to be visiting Columbus, Ohio during the exhibition and provided all photos seen here. Please reach out with your exhibition needs, no project is too big or too small!
Ming Smith was raised in Columbus, Ohio and her photography included in this home-coming exhibition reflects the intimate exploration of a racially divided upbringing with compassion and understanding. Read more at CMA’s website.
