The Vancouver Art Gallery announced last week, the acquisition of the largest collection of photographs by renowned photographer, Stephen Shore. More than 800 pieces were gifted to the gallery by the Chan family, making this gallery home to one of the most comprehensive collections of Shore’s series titled Uncommon Places in the world.
Shore photographed street scenes, motels and store fronts over the course of multiple road trips throughout the United States between 1973 and 1981. Uncommon Places showcase places and objects that inhabit ordinary daily life in vivid color establishing the importance of color photography as an art form.
Beginning in March 27th 2026, The Vancouver Art Gallery will open an exhibition of more than 50 photographs from this donated series, some never before exhibited publicly.
Laumont proudly collaborated directly with Stephen Shore to print the Uncommon Places series as chromogenic prints in the mid 2010’s.
